200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Birmingham Certification
The Yoga Teacher Training Program is offered under the direction of Akasha Ellis (500 E-RYT) at Birminghamyoga and Terri Sellers (200 E-RYT) and guest teachers Becca Impello (200 E-RYT) and
Laura Tyree (500 E-RYT, 700 CYT, Director of Dragon Fly Yoga, Ft. Walton, Florida.
Whether you are interested in deepening your own practice or you feel the call to teach, the Birmingham Yoga Teacher Training program is committed to the personal success of each individual.
The training is a 200 hour yoga teacher training certification program specifically designed to provide a rich environment for learning. Within this training you will discover a strong foundation of acquiring knowledge, utilizing teaching methods, experiencing asana, and consistently applying the principles of the eight-limb path.
You will have the opportunity to deepen both your asana and meditation practice and the practice of yoga in your daily life. This program prepares you to instruct Level 1 and Level 2 classes.
Birmingham Yoga Teacher Training program is a Registered School with Yoga Alliance.
Tentative Training Class Calendar and Schedule for 2012
Jan 13 - May 19th 2012
Each Trainee is required to attend all of the weekends to receive a certification. If you are unable to attend a weekend or some of the training hours you may be able to schedule a private session at an additional charge.
Week long Immersion akasha
Sat 8:30am-4:30pm, Sunday 8:30-3:30pm.
Mon-Fri Jan 16-20th 6-10am/12-4pm.
Weekend Training Sesions with Akasha will meet
Fri 5:15-8:15pm
Sat 8:30am-4:30pm
Sun 9a am - 4 pm
Weekend Training Sessions with Guest Faculty will meet
Sat 9:30am-6:30pm
Sun 8:30-am3:30pm
Training weekends are held at Birmingham Yoga Studio at First Ave Rocks, 2417 1st Ave South, Birmingham, AL.
Sample Week Inensive Schedule:
6-6:30am Kundalini Yoga
6:30-7:40am Pranayama and Chanting
7:45-10am Ashtanga/Vinyasa Led or Self Guided Practice
10-12:30 Break
12:30-4:30 Class and Discussion
In addition to Scheduled Sessions
Students must complete an additional 20 workshop hours, cultivate a daily practice, an attend weekly public class,
observe and assist a class twice a month with Akasha or Teachers approved by Birmingham Yoga Teacher Training totaling 500 hours.
Requirements:
It is important that you are sincere in your commitment and that you are healthy physically, mentally and emotionally.
Yoga can be practiced by all and we do not want to discourage anyone who has the right intention however the training will be challenging physically and mentally and it is important that you are able to allow these changes to unfold.
During this exploration one may experience feelings of comfort, discomfort, happiness, sadness, joy and fear all of which are equally important in our growth.
We do recommend a minimum of 1 year of Hatha Yoga Practice before attending our Yoga Teacher Training Program.
Price
Please include a non-refundable $250 deposit with your application. Registration has begun for 2012. Deposit will be applied to your tuition.
Payment Schedule
The deposit will be waived for tuition paid in full with registration if received before Dec 1 2011 ($2500).
We do offer an installment plan.
Tuition paid in 3 installments with deposit is $2700. No penalty for early payment

Installment schedule is as follows:
Installment one $950 Due 1st day of Training Jan 13 2012 Installment two $800 Due Feb 4 2012 Training
Installment three $700 Due Mar 26 2012 Training
Tuition: $2700 (Installment plan-deposit plus 3 installments)
$2500 (Paid in Full by December 1, 2011). Please note paying via Event brite/paypal via credit card there is a 3% processing fee.
There will be no refunds given after the start of the program.

- Yoga history, styles, & evolution
- Yoga Sutra's and philosphy
- Learn Sanskrit names of asana
- Pranayama & the use of breath
- Yogic Diet/Ayurveda
- Chakras and bandhas
- Meditation - developing deeper levels of awareness
- Kriyas and chants in the tradition of Kundalini yoga
- Numerology
- Asana Emphasis will be given to the Asthanga Primary Series as taught by Pattabhi Jois both Led and Mysore style
- Restortative and Vinyasa Krama
- Basic yogic anatomy & physiology
- Learning Alignment & how to avoid injuries for your body
- Art of sequencing to create a fluid & balanced class
- Verbal & physical adjustments
- Ability to develop & communicate a class that teaches & inspires
- How to safely correct others performing asana
